Import ArchiKEK 3D Models into Blender: GLB Workflow

December 10, 20245 min read3D Export

Why GLB for Blender?

GLB (binary glTF) is the web-native 3D format that Blender handles brilliantly:

  • Single file (geometry + materials + textures)
  • Small file size
  • Fast import
  • Preserves layer structure

Importing GLB to Blender

Basic Import

  • File → Import → glTF 2.0 (.glb/.gltf)
  • Navigate to your ArchiKEK export
  • Click "Import glTF 2.0"

Import Settings

Keep defaults, but check:

  • ☑️ Import Materials
  • ☑️ Import Shading

Working with Imported Models

Scene Organization

GLB imports as a hierarchy:

```
ArchiKEK_Model
├── Buildings
│ ├── Residential
│ ├── Commercial
│ └── Default
├── Roads
├── Water
├── Green
└── Terrain
```

Converting Materials

ArchiKEK exports basic colors. For better renders:

  • Select all buildings
  • Go to Material Properties
  • Add new material or modify existing
  • Adjust roughness/metallic for realism

Rendering Your Site Model

Quick Setup

  • Add HDRI for environment lighting
  • Set camera position
  • Enable Cycles or Eevee
  • Render!

Recommended Settings

For Previews (Eevee)

  • Ambient Occlusion: On
  • Screen Space Reflections: On
  • Render samples: 64

For Finals (Cycles)

  • Render samples: 256-512
  • Denoising: On
  • Light bounces: 4-8

Adding Your Design

Positioning

The model is centered at origin (0,0,0). Your site center.

Scaling

Model is in meters. No conversion needed in Blender.

Inserting Buildings

  • Model your design
  • Position at appropriate coordinates
  • Match scale with context

Animation Ideas

Camera Flythrough

  • Add camera path (Bezier curve)
  • Add Follow Path constraint
  • Animate!

Day-Night Cycle

  • Animate sun position
  • Add HDRI rotation
  • Create timelapse effect

Construction Sequence

  • Animate building visibility
  • Show "before" context, then "after"

Exporting from Blender

For Web (Sketchfab)

File → Export → glTF 2.0

  • Format: GLB
  • Include: Selected objects if you've added content

For Video

Render → Render Animation

  • Output: MP4 with H.264
  • Quality: High or Perceptual Lossless

Tips & Tricks

Performance

Large models can be slow. Tips:

  • Use viewport simplify
  • Hide layers you're not using
  • Enable GPU rendering

Materials by Theme

Match ArchiKEK themes in Blender:

  • Dark theme: Add emission to buildings
  • Neon: Use glow effects in compositing
  • Blueprint: Freestyle lines + blue background

Photorealism

For realistic renders:

  • Add scatter objects (cars, trees)
  • Use PBR materials
  • Add atmospheric fog
  • Match real sun angle
